Well, i've been using this forum to read opinions and gather picks for American sports, so its time for me to pay back to this great forum.

YTD 2-1

Starting Bank: $2500
Bank: $3157
Profit: $657

Here are my Soccer picks for January 27th, 2004:

_English Division Two_

Barnsley Home Win - 1.90 (Centrebet) | Stake: $750 = WIN 3-0

Time for Barnsley to win a home game, after no win in 4 games, with 3 draws and one loss, all beit quite unlucky. Barnsley needs to get back on form for their promotion run and they meet a team in dire condition, which gives them a great chance to do so today. Not only does Blackpool dread playing against Barnsley, who have won their last 3 matches quite comfortably against Blackpool (1 home, 2 away), but they have several players injured:

Simon Grayson, Tommy Jaszczun, Keith Southern, Chris Clarke, John Murphy, Lee Jones and Kirk Hilton are all out for tonights match.

Barnsley are boosted because new keeper Marlon Beresford starts this match and is expected to do well, taking over from loanee Craig Ireland. Barnsley have a very talented side, with Isiah Rankin, Paul Warhurst, Betsy and several other skillful players. I expect them to get the better of a depleted Blackpool side and return to their promotion battles.

Tranmere Home Win - 1.83 (Centrebet) | Stake: $400 = WIN 3-2

Stockport is just out-of-sorts for me, they're not doing well at all, playing dull, boring football. Their loss to leaders Plymouth at home 2-0 summed them up for me, they offered no resistance at all. Tranmere is a solid team and should be doing way better then the standings show, they are coming off a upset win against Luton Town (0-1), which is a big boost for them, mentally and financially wise. Also Brian little's team (Tranmere) will have a full squad for this match (no injuries), whilst stock port will lose influential defender Rob Clare. I think Tranmere would get through this one easily.

A quick bet on York to beat southend at 2.50 (centrebet) $350. = Draw 0-0 (LOSS)

Seems like great value for a team like Southend who are quite poor behind the home fans, losing their last 3. York must rebound after the loss to huddersfield at home 0-2, and this is the right team to do it against. Southend will miss MIchael Husbands, Jamie Fullarton, Leke Odunsi.

Good day today, only let down was the 0-0 draw with York and Southend, however York dominated the match.

Barnsley won 3-0, Tranmere 3-2.

Here are my Soccer picks for January 28th, 2004:

_Turkish Cup_

Denizlispor Away Win - 2.05 (Gamebookers) | Stake: $800

Bookmakers are totally wrong with the odds here, this should be a very easy win for Denizlispor. Yes, they have continued their poor form from the winter break however Coach Burak MUST put forward a result here. They are 4th in the league standings which is a huge surprise for Burak and his team, but this has been achieved with great discipline. This is a local derby in Turkey, both teams are situated close to each other, so it will be firey, but i expect Burak and Co to pull out with a win.

Adding: (January 28th)

_Holland Casino Eredivisie_

RKC Waalwijk Away Win - 2.45 (Unibet)| Stake: $450

Must win game for RKC and coach Jol, they must take 3 points from teams like Volendam if they wish to remain in the Eredivisie. RKC is in dire straits from their performances last year... They must really get back on track here and race away from the drop zone. Last match between the two teams ended 3-0 for RKC, this is exactly the kind of match RKC and Jol should win.

_Copa Del Ray (Spain) _

Atletico Madrid Home Win - 1.80 (Unibet)| Stake: $700

Sevilla is a very cold team, especially after winning the first leg 4-0, they won't take it so seriously away, they have done this over and over again. Also suffered a close encounter because of this. Atletico Madrid will fight for this one down to the last minute, i expect them to get a win here, even tho it won't qualify them. Sevilla is about to a seal a deal to sell Reyes to Arsenal, so this is also a blow.

Lineups seem decent, so i will go with Atl Madrid.

_Greek Cup_

Akratitos Home Win - 1.85 (gamebookers) | Stake: $450

_Brazilian Paulista_

Palmeiras Away Win - 2.10 (Bet365) | Stake: $500

Palmeiras one of Brazil's greats is back.. Once they get their goal problems sorted out that is
icon_wink.gif
They may lose control of their home advantage, however this is off-topic. Ituano disappointed me with their match against Paulista, losing 3-1 it seems their reinforcements made little difference. This could be Edmilson's last match for Palmeiras as he looks to be transfered to Asia and i'm sure they would like to end his career in Palmeiras with a win, not only him but the whole team. Munoz has also been playing exceptionally well with 2 goals, i expect him and Edmilson to put away Ituano.

Waalwijk AWAY form has been horrible
with losses in 7 of their last 8 fixtures.
Volendam is not a solid squad by any stretch,
but i sense a home victory for Volendam tomorrow. They have been losing to top teams at home (Feyenoord, AZ Alkmaar), but beating the lower eschelon teams. Last 2 home wins vs Twente and JC Roda.

It is always difficult to predict the form
after the long winter break...i'll lay off this one.

I understand your point about away form, but i'm not someone who bothers with Stats too much. But you can also look it this way, this is a great opportunity for Waalwijk to get back on track against Volendam. Waalwijk will miss Petrovic which will be a blow, but i still expect Waalwijk to beat Volendam. Thanks for the good luck call.
